Castiglione della Pescaia

Castiglione della Pescaia is a world-famous tourist resort with numerous awards for environmental quality.
Definitely worth a visit is the Historical Centre, a beautiful medieval village from which one can enjoy an extraordinary 180° view of the nature reserve Diaccia Botrona to the Tombolo pine forest and from there to the sea as far as the promontory of Monte Argentario. On a clear day, it is beautiful to discover and recognise all the islands of the archipelago.
Within the historic centre there are several very interesting buildings to visit, including the 18th-century Church of Santa Maria del Giglio, built inside a bastion of the mediaeval town wall and the 16th-century Church of St John the Baptist which features a high-medieval bas-relief on the portal architrave.

Among the many traditional folklore events in the Castiglione della Pescaia area, the Sea PalioA traditional festival held in Castiglione della Pescaia since 1952. The palio is run in rowing boats with a crew of five (four oarsmen plus a helmsman).
Originally organised in the Bruna river that runs through the town, since 2009 the race has been held at sea, with the regatta course in front of the canal port where the finish line is located. An event of sure interest, a good opportunity to visit beautiful Castiglione!

Spa day

These enchanting places, where the wellness blends harmoniously with the naturewere already known to the ancients for the health-giving properties of their water and sludgearound which the first centres dedicated to body care sprang up.

In our Maremma, the spa tradition evolves by offering outdoor experiences in preserved natural environments, as well as modern, well-equipped wellness centres where visitors can indulge in expert care.

Among the thermal pearls in the area Saturnia, Venturina and Sorano stand out for the variety of their healing waters, surrounded by scenery of incomparable beauty.

Journey through flavours

Although the Maremma is universally known as a land of the sea, the culinary tradition is instead very much rooted on the land: the extraordinary Tuscan extra virgin olive oil PGI combined with the centuries-old tradition of game hunting provide unique dishes with an unforgettable flavour: the tortelli maremmani stuffed with chard and ricotta cheese and served with meat sauces, acquacotta, pappardelle with hare, wild boar with olivesto name but a few. But it also goes without saying that the sea also makes itself felt at the table, and so any self-respecting menu will not be without delicacies made from fish and shellfish.

Excellent partners of all these tasty dishes are the many wines of this territory, as many and as varied as the wine routes telling their characteristics:

The Colli di Maremma Wine and Food Trailwhich embraces thirteen municipalities in the Maremma and is home to wines of the calibre of Morellino di Scansano DOCG and very popular are also the Maremma Toscana D.O.C. Vermentino and Ciliegiolo.

Towards the mountain we find the Montecucco Wine Route and the Flavours of Amiata. The Montecucco DOC is a wine distinguished by its characteristic flavours, those of a wine born on mountain slopes.
